Here are a few pics I took of a curb machine.

Where is the mixer in all of that? Did you dump your load (pardon the expression) into the machine? We don't have them here in North Jersey.

WELL BILLY, WHAT WE DO HERE IS DUMP INTO THAT CONVEYOR. THE CONVEYOR DUMPS THE CONCRETE INTO THE BIN. WHEN THE BIN IS FULL THE CONVEYOR STOPS AND THE TRUCK PULLS UP TO WAIT FOR THE CURBER TO COME TO IT. THEN YOU DO THE WHOLE ROUTINE AGAIN.

I posted these pics for you, Billy, as I know you don't have them in Jersey.
It's pretty much like pouring curb and gutter forms, only you're pouring a 2" slump at fast discharge. Does a hell of a job on the fins.

They're alright if you're going in a straight line, but when you have to make those corners, you have to reposition all the time. The guys on the machine don't seem to understand that, though.
And luckily, they mostly put automatic trucks on them. First time I went to one I was breaking in new Muckboots. That was a treat, lemme tell ya.

we just dump on the belt on the machine about a 1 or 2" slump and there is a guy working the chute moving it back and forth and telling us when to pull up and stop.. we always stay at the machine

Have to pour it real dry because the curb machine packs the mud real tight, squeezes it into the form at the back. They're real picky about the slump.

My favorite curb machine job was in a truck with a worn out hydro pump that the shop would not replace. My truck would stall trying to pour out at a 2" slump and all I had was a city horn (no air horn). Well the truck stalled and the machine kept comming at me and the machine operator could not hear my city horn and the truck would not restart.
The operator looked up when his machine stopped and realized what had happened.
My boss knew my truck was having trouble and kept batching me to the job.
I called him on the radio and said that I had good news and bad news. The bad news was that the curb machine hit me but the good news was that I could pee clean.
The contractor wasn't too mad and told me not to report it.

I guess that is the mechanic catch phrase regardless.

Do you guys ever "Spritz" (shoot 1/4 to 1/2 a gallon of water) the fins as your discharging? I am real picky about keeping my drum free of build up. You don't need to do this unless your driving a truck with build up on the fins and you can't keep the machine full. Luckily for us my company will chip out a drum (or at least have a good look at) I write up.

We must be spoiled because the trucks we drive now turn sharper than trucks from the 70's, if you time it right you can stay in the hopper and round corners or do Cul de sacs.

Those aren't too bad, but parking lots kinda suck. Plus, I'm not sure where you're from or how your trucks are configured, but ours have two sets of belly axles on some of them, so they have a bit of extra length.
