Yesterday I poured a few handicap ramps in West New York, NJ. When I was done I washed my chutes off and then climbed up to hose down the inside of the drum. When I was finished I noticed that one of the laborers had brought all his tools over for cleaning. I lowered my hose to him and then climbed back down the ladder. I started to walk past him to put my chutes away and just then he pulled on the hose and it tripped me. I landed on my left knee (just had surgery on it in March) on some broken concrete. The cop who was directing traffic called for an ambulance and they took me for x-rays. Nothing broken or torn, just a sprain. I usually step on the hose so they can't pull on it in that situation, but for some reason I didn't do it yesterday. So, I'm home today and my vacation starts on Monday. Gonna be a great week. Let's be careful out there.

Anyone else find it ironic that it happened as you were pouring handicap ramps?

From looking at other posts by you, you've been in the buisness for as long as I have, since 1973. I went 35 years without a personal injury then I jumped off a 26" ledge on the job and tore my right ACL ligament in my knee. Maybe it's age, but it made me really realize I ain't who I used to be. Haven't been tripped by a hose but it pisses me off when a worker takes the 30ft of hose off the truck and he's maybe 2 feet from the truck washing tools. Here in Fla you only get a 90 gal. water tank. Not much to share. While you're at home check my website www.allreadymix.com.

We have 150 gallon water tanks, but the customer doesn't get the hose until my truck is clean. And you're right, they'll take all of the hose off the truck to clean their boots when they're standing right next to the truck.

Hell the other day we did a pour for this company and I HATE being the last load for them since the laborer on the pump thinks he owns my water tank. I get done pouring and he's like don't go anywhere I need to wash this pipe up..So I ask him how long thats gonna be and he says about 10 min, so I say let me go wash up and I'll stop here on my way back and let you use my hose ( I have to drive by the pump to leave) he says no you can wait.. so I said whatever rinsed my chute out a little there and threw some water in my drum, and climbed in the cab and enjoyed the air conditioning on a 90* day while they were sweating there asses off.. 30 minutes later the pipe shows up, 15 minutes after the pipe shows up they are done with my water.. talk about pissed off, but ohwell they are getting charged $90 to have me sit there and wait lol..

I tell the pump drivers that when I'm done cleaning my truck you can have all the water you want. Some of them get annoyed but my boss likes clean trucks. And he's the one who signs my paycheck.
