I have a couple times. The other day I left my bottom hose hanging from the catwalk. I drove all the way back to the plant with it swaying in the wind, hoping it wouldn't fall off. It didn't.

Dragged my hose once during a curb & gutter job thanx to a finisher hosing off his tools. I stopped the drum, pulled the brake and went out and fixed it, then told the guy what I thought of him. Never ran over my hose, at least not yet.

I've run over my hose in just about every situation. On a side note, we have a driver that announced two days ago that he was going to buy the first finisher that puts his hose back right a soda. He's still got his money. I told him that he'll get rich off the interest waiting.

I haven't run over my hose, but I did run over my chute scraper. I was doing some sidewalk patches around town, and they hung it up wrong. So of course, I hear a "snap!" and it was all over for that one.

Never run over my hose but drag it down the road more time than I care to think about. Lots of rail road crossing in this area and there real good for bouncing your hose off if you brain fart and hit them to hard. Keep an extra hose in the cab just incase.

It happens now and then. NJ is about as corrupt a state as you'll ever find. The money that's meant for repairing potholes, repaving etc, never seems to find its way past the pockets of those in government. So, our roads are in terrible shape and broken springs and shredded hoses are common. Are they hiring mixer drivers in Arizona?

Are they hiring mixer drivers in Arizona? I don't think they're hiring anybody in Arizona. Or any other state.

So who knows whats going to happen. I'm waiting to see the Obama money on roads and stuff. but no dice yet. Drive safe and don't drag your hose!

^^ They don't go by seniority?? The top guys get brought in the most and get the choice of hours.. they cant keep people home because it's cheaper

Ohh.. everything has to go by seniority with us.. The top guys get brought in first start at 5 am and go 5 minutes apart till everyone is in, or 10 minutes apart..and at the end of the day when they start letting guys go home the top guys get the first choice.. I don't leave early. I try to stay for the last load whenever I can.. but next month when all the plants open back up again, I wont have to worry about it.. I'll be #2 at my plant..

Man, if they tried that at my work, the senior guys would have a heart attack! I guess that's an advantage to being union. If you're on the top, of course.
Almost everybody at my work is making top wage, though, so it wouldn't matter.
And Gant, you'll always be #2 in my book! ;D

I worked for the Teamsters here, the company put in a wheel and the drivers had a fit but things worked out OK. Senior drivers get to come in 1st on Monday then it goes strictly by hours. I you wanted to work on sat then you had to call and volunteer by Friday noon. Sat drivers came in and went home by seniority, if there wasn't enough drivers they would draft, bottom up. You only cut your throat when you bring in the old guys all the time, the young quit then you have to work more 60-70 hrs a week when summer comes. The way I figure its called fair, you make the same wage, and same job, but Older drivers do get the Newest trucks, pick 1st of vacations, more vacation time in first and out first out Saturday. I don't know how many times I caught some of the old guys sleeping under a tree at 3:00 waiting for the plant to close only to let the the new guys pick up for the slacker's,,,,,Sometimes the truth hurts but that is just wrong.

^^I understand about making sure the younger guys are working. I totally agree. I, for one, go home every chance I get. However, there have been times that I needed the money and decided to stay. It is my right as a senior employee. I have earned that right by spending my fair share of time as a bottom feeder. I should not be forced to give up my seniority. A perfect example is something that happened a couple of days ago. We had a driver volunteer for an early morning pour. He was still around in the afternoon. He was up to 13 hours. Dispatch told him to go home. He did not want to because there was still concrete to haul and he had hours left to work. They tried to force him off the clock. The dispatcher said that "13 hours is enough". True for me, but obviously not for him. I stepped in and , long story short, he was allowed to continue working. He had the right to the work. Should he have exercised that right? Just because you have the right to do something doesn't mean that it is the right thing to do. It depends on the situation. Like Yardbird said, make sure the young guys stick around. You don't want to be on the bottom of the list again, do you? BUT, don't let management force you into a judgement call that you should be making , not them.

I don't think there's a driver around who hasn't dragged their hose at least once.... And we run a rotation when its slow, so everyone gets equal hours. If you don't work your butt off, you don't work, simple as that. Only thing seniority decides is how new you truck is lol

Jeez....cops in Jersey would never get out of their car for something like a hose. Donuts, yes. Hoses, no. freakin' Joy-Zee state troopers with their pants tucked into their jack boots and those leather straps across the tops of their old school bus driver caps used to give me h*ll when I was driving clunker cars as a young soldier on Fort Dix. Honestly though some of my cars at the time were pretty scary! re: dragging the hose. I've done it with all four ready mix companies I've driven for. Dragging a hose and leaving the water valve open on a cold morning are pretty classic mistakes.
