1. Kids. They are mesmerized by the bowl and love to have you honk the horn.
2. Ladies in sports cars with sun roofs or convertible tops.
3. Pump truck jobs where the pump truck is a Putzmeister. Their hoppers are lower than a Schwing's and they pump so much quieter.
4. Small pours out in the country in autumn - you get to see the leaves change and watch the turkeys and deer cross the road.
5. A flash flood on a Friday afternoon following a sixty hour week.

Believe it or not, I enjoy delivering in places like Jersey City. Yeah, traffic is terrible but there's always something to see. There's always some oddball walking around for my entertainment. Having lunch in the garage is another thing I enjoy. There's usually some ball-busting going on that's good for a laugh.

Believe it or not, I enjoy delivering in places like Jersey City. Yeah, traffic is terrible but there's always something to see. There's always some oddball walking around for my entertainment. And some people at work don't understand why I would prefer to drive in Seattle rather than go someplace easy and local. Aside from the extra seat time and higher pay, there's just so much to look at. Some other parts I enjoy: - That small job that goes just right. Ones you show up to and think, oh no, this is going to be a disaster, but everybody is in a good mood, they bust ass and get done, and I have a good legal spot to clean up. - As aforementioned, going by a group of kids and blowing the horn. And teenage girls in Jettas. Like I always say, its not illegal to look at crack, its only illegal to smoke it. - Being complimented by a senior driver on how clean you keep their truck. I'm not looking for atta boys, but its nice that they recognize that you're trying to do a good job. - Taking the long way back to the plant after a late-afternoon pour. Gives me time to plan my takeover of the world.

x2 on the putzmeister pumps. Schwings are like BLOOM swwwwwshhht BLOOM swwwwshhht. Or if the pumper is in a hurry blmswshtblmswshtblmswsht. Schwings can pump seriously fast I swear, 4 strokes and that hopper is empty and one stroke away from sending bits of concrete into orbit! Boom going all over the place wobbling up and down, side to side jerking the hose-man all over the place.
Putzmeisters on the other hand? .boo-shwack. .swwshht. .boo-shwack. swwshht. Boom nice and stable.
I'll never forget last summer, was out on this job in the middle of this massive field where they had the 60 or so meter Coastal carolina pump out, (I think it's a putz)and I could tell a storm was a brewing. I saw a lightning bolt in the distance and I blew the horn on the pump and the pumper looked at me, and I pointed at the sky and made a quick motion towards the ground wiggling my arm as I went, he gave me the thumbs up but kept pumping, I didn't know that he understood, so right about that time, lightning struck less than 1000ft away from the boom, pretty much a FLASH..BOOM, and that pump revved up so high I thought the motor would blow, and the boom went to the ground so fast, with the pumper making long strides away from the pump, and the finishers were going too, so I got in my truck and didn't touch anything metal until the storm passed.

My favorite part, getting out of the truck and having the chute man compliment your driving. That's my favorite part is when you know you made your customer happy. A close second would be the comaraderie (sp?) among your fellow drivers. Tied for second would be training drivers.
