Hello everyone, I don't quite know how I am going to be accepted here at MD.com I am a former mixer driver who's knees started getting the best of him about 4 years ago. I got hooked up with a lab and now am pushing around a wheelbarrow, air meter and slump cone. Do I miss driving truck? Hell Yes! but as far as being able to walk at the end of the day it was a move in the right direction. I really like the site, especially the trucks from across the pond. I don't know why they keep putting the steering wheel on the wrong side of the truck. Speaking of steering wheels, Did you here about the new mixer Kimble is coming out with... it has no steering wheel and no drivers seat... Its for the RMX producer who has bid the job too low, lost his ass and doesn't know witch way to turn. Yuk Yuk Yuk. All for now.

Hi Guru, I'm in the same boat. I just had arthroscopic surgery on my left knee last week. The MD said they found a lot of arthritis in there that didn't show up on the MRI. My right knee is loaded with arthritis, too, and needs total replacement. So my driving days may be slowly coming to an end. I took a course a few years ago to get certified as a fire inspector. I passed the course but any available inspector jobs are all part-time and don't pay much. I'd have to take several of them. Some of them are night jobs and some are day jobs. Well, welcome to the club. Whereabouts are you?

I'm located in Tuscarawas county Ohio about 100 Mi south of Cleveland 100 mi West of Pittsburgh and 100 mi East of Columbus Its a nice little county, about 90K people in the whole county. Being a Tech is a good job, about the same wages as driving but no Benee's that I miss greatly. My title is Field Manager so I handle all the Soil and Concrete Inspectors in the field, make sure they are all rodding their cylinders 25 times and put out alot of fires.

OH! to be a Concrete tester, Your best friend when he is testing your concrete, But when it goes bad, he is the lowest of the low, scum sucking tester... I bet he mishandled the cylinders... he didnt rod it enough... he bumped the cone....calibrate your air tester.. etc etc.... it is never the mud!!

Welcome. I bet as a former driver, you're not one of those inspectors that gets in a guy's face for rinsing off his chute scraper in the pump hopper, huh? Some guys just have to demonstrate that they are the king of their particular hill. I guess that's true for any profession, though. Most of the inspectors I know are really cool dudes.

I was stationed in Columbus, Ohio when I was in the USAF. Rickenbacker Airport used to be known as Lockbourne AFB. I loved it out there. Wide open spaces and the people were all down to earth. I spent two years there and then got transferred to Myrtle Beach AFB, SC which wasn't as nice.
