Hey guys just wondering how everything is going in other parts of the country. I see a few of you have been laid of sorry to hear that. I have been averaging about 55 hours a week all summer here in North Dakota. We Have alot of work on the powerplants and have a 6300 yard pour coming up next friday planning on three plants and bring drivers in from Minnesota to help.

I've been getting 40 hours straight time and a few hours OT each week for the past few months. The OT is beginning to disappear. Hopefully, I'll keep the 40 hours. My family depends on it.

Yeah word around the office is we will be slowing down after this big pour, I dont see it happening. Luckily no drivers have been laid off yet since " You make the money" quote from the president although alot of saleried positions are getting laid off.

I've been getting 45 for the past few weeks.. this week I only got about 20.. but this winter they are closing all the plants but 4.. There are 2 plants in my county and we have a master seniority list between the two.. one of them is closing..either my plant or plant 12... but one is staying open.. when the one in my county closes we will go to the master list I should be safe since there are only 2 guys at the other plant that are above me I'll only move down 2 spots..

Slow here, too. I was recently able to significantly lower my living expenses, so this winter won't be as bad as I was expecting, but still, I'd rather be working.

Up until this week I was getting 40 to 45. This week, however, is another story. Did one 8 hour night pour and got 6 hours today. Good thing my girl drives a school bus. Union job and she's got 11 years in.

they are trying to limit all to 40hours to stop paying overtime. some weeks it works some they cant help but let us get 50 hours. rumors are flying everywhere. One rumor is that we are hoping the company next door fails (they are around 20 mill in the hole) and that way we can take over what they have. Hows that for a company strategy? moved/removed/retitled several managers and brought in the frenchies. hopefully they have more sense than the ones they replaced. doesnt look good for lasting till the end of the year.

We are finally getting hit a little bit no lay off but we have to take 1 hour for lunch sometime during the day (off the clock) it could be worse at least they arent talking layoff yet, everybody hang tight it looks like it might get worse before it gets better.

These last 2 weeks have been horrnedous I have barely been able to get 40 hrs. I clocked in 31 hrs this week. I think that by early Novemeber I am going to register for unemployment to be ready for the super slow down. Good luck to you all where ever you are

well we do have a 40 hour back up system so we get paid 40 hours anyway but that is half what we are used to earning. generally when I get a 40 hr minimum check I was close to earning the same amount anyway just missing the equivilant by a couple of loads so its not total welfare.

Do yall not have a 40 hour guarantee? If not, I would be filing unemployment to get the rest of my hours. From the way it looks it seems like companies in the south mainly texas has a guarantee.

We've been getting 40 hrs. but we have no guarantee. That's good advice about filing for unemployment to make up the difference.

I've been filing unempolyment... unemployment here is 320 a week.. that doesnt even come close to making up the hours..and when I work 12-20 hours a week and file it asks for what you earned, so you put it in and it gives you the difference to make $320.. so lets say I only make $215 at work.. unemployment will pay me $105 to get me to 320..

I've been filing, but I forgot to do it the week before last, so I've got to start all over again.
Damn it.

It is max $398 a week here. It felt kinda good to get that until I started working again. I had to wait 3 weeks for the first check, but I got it for a month. It does feel really good to be back at work though. I like working 10 hours a day 4 days a week. I cant wait until I get my 90 days in so I can get some OT. Right now a lot of the other guys are working 7 days a week. Always voluntary, never mandatory, but they let you get all you want. All these years I thought there was good money in concrete, now I figured out there is better money working in a machine shop.

And I forgot after I cleaned up the whole house and did a bunch of projects around here, so I bet that softened the blow a bit.

Well, I exaggerated on the ass-kicking but she would certainly let me know that I "f'ed" up.

mine lets me know before I "f" up... shes a yeller.. And it pisses her off because I dont yell or get mad very easy, so when shes yelling I'm like "why are you yelling at me, I'm not yelling.. I dont yell" and shes yells even more.. ahh.. its great sometimes

Yea but doesn't the high pitched squeal that all wives have go right through to your spine? My poker face is that I lose control of my bowels when I really get yelled at. Then she backs the hell off........

no more hours now. Lay offs today. they got me. then they went and shut down a nieghboring plant and cut all those guys including the yard man and dispatchers with the exception of the 3 senior drivers which will transfer. I knew it had to be coming. 3 buildings that we were going to pour shut down the projects so what little we had to get by with went poof. they gave me 4 weeks severance pay which was a surprise to me. oh well

Hopefully it won't last long. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I make it through the winter. We have a few younger guys who usually take a voluntary lay-off.

We are supposed to be combining 2 plants into one..I'll move down 2 spots now.. not too bad considering there are 11 drivers at that other plant..they arent going to lay anyone off.. just give the lower guys 9am start times and call us off by 8 am if they dont need us..

Like a modern verson of the WPA.

i am sorry to hear about the lay offs fellas, and the sort en hours. here in Wyoming we are busier than a cat covering up a turd. i am still getting at least 50 hrs a week and working 5 and 1/2 days a week. but we pour concrete even when to snow flies and the Mercury drop way below freezing . it for and irrigation district and the winter is the only time they can do it.
