Just found this site a couple of days ago. Somewhat younger retiree in upstate N.Y. Teamster whole career (Locals #408,398,691 and 118) Spent half of time on mixers, half on block(boom) trucks and quarry time mixed in. Mixers were by far the easiest and safest, blocktrucks are always waiting to "Bite" you. When asked "How much d'you got left?" , answer "I dunno, how much did you use?" There was one black gentleman (contractor) who always referred to mixerdrivers as " operators". He felt once you got to his job, most of the driving was done.

"Upstate" NY covers a lot of ground. Whereabouts are you? Welcome to the madness (actually, this site relieves a lot of stress).

I startedout in Niagara Falls,NY (Buffalo local) and moved to a place called Hilton, a suburb of Rochester. Some of the videos helped me to explain how you can be stuck on flat ground (turf) to my wife. I'm still amazed at how much beer drinking used to go on with no accidents.

Beer drinking? Hmmmm.....why yes....yes, I believe I may have imbibed on an occasion or two. Never enough to make me "tipsy" as they say. No, I always went right past "tipsy" and hit "hammered" head on. There was one time I had just finished pouring a footing on a day when the temp's reached 103. Hot and humid and no a/c in the trucks. The contractor asked me if I wanted a beer. Well, it was around 3:00pm and quitting time was generally 4:00pm. I said "Sure!". Five beers later I was carefully heading back to the plant. They sure went down easy.
