Im paid 30 an hour on Saturday so I just turn the radio on and deal with it! By the way everybody should be trying to better their lives and not just be happy driving a mixer. I do tax deeds and last year made more then driving my mixer. Always try to better yourself.

We do Saturdays almost all year long. In January, February and March they bring in only the drivers they need on Saturdays. I miss the money (5+ hours at $30 an hour) but it is nice sleeping late two days in a row.

Billy do you guys shut down at all in the dead of winter, do ya let guys go at all, or is it steady right through?

CF.....we work straight through the winter. A few guys take a voluntary layoff. They are mostly single guys with no real responsibilities other than themselves. Unemployment pays over $400 a week so they see no point in working for just a few dollars more. I haven't been laid off since 1976. I think that since we are so close to NYC there will always be construction of some kind going on.

That's pretty good, steady work... Our plants usually shut down cept for the 4 main plants at the quarries, and they load those plants up with all the drivers. The rest with seniority get put in triaxles, or take the layoff. One thing, our company sorta burned most of their bridges with all the small contractors, and homeowners, and went for all the municipal work and the big jobs. They turn alota work away in the summer, and then fall back on the small work and little jobs to get through winter. They are lucky they get the work at all in winter with that attitude. But when it's 25 below up here and theres 2 feet of snow on the ground, the only thing working is Joe homeowner who wants cement for his basement floor, ya know? I've worked straight through since 1979 as well, between the mixers, triaxles, quarry work and snow removal, it's been steady every winter. Drive safe

I do tax deeds and last year made more then driving my mixer. Always try to better yourself. Nothing wrong with trying to better your lot in life. But, I wouldn't bust a guy's balls just because he's content driving a mixer. There are worse ways to make a living. Every job has it's drawbacks. I'll bet even a Playboy photographer has his complaints (not that I can think of any).

I don't care for Saturday work. I'm a family man, and that's just another half day I'm away from them.
Nice getting that overtime, though, but still...

I got screwed into working yesterday.. the boss lied to me when he asked if I'd work.. he told me there was about a 100 yards goin out and it should only take about 4 hours to do everything.. so i said alright ill work.. then when i got there there was 350 yards and i got 8 hours

I myself hate saturday work. I made a new years resolution not to work any this year. I only worked 4 last year. Our company is usually busy on saturdays, but I have enough seniority for them to go around me. I work enough during the week.
