If you would like to use your own custom avatar you must first host the image/avatar online. There are many free sites to host on like www.photobucket.com . Once you have found the avatar you want, just upload it to your hosting site. The hosting site will provide you with a URL for each image you host with them. Copy the image URL given. Than simply go to your forum profile and choose to modify it. In the space for "Avatar URL" enter the full http:// URL to your hosted image/avatar in this box. You can specify your own custom width and height for your avatar. Avatars must be no more than 100x100 pixels.

most small pictures on the web can be used as an avatar, if you right click on them then choose properties at the bottom of the window that pops up, the url will be listed for that picture. they might appear a little distorted if they are too big, but that is worth a shot.

You can re-size pictures in the 'paint' program. Can change the size quite easily. either by percentage, size in inches or metric or by pixels. (I think you click on 'attributes')
For posting photos, it's nice if they can be re-sized before hosting too. Microsoft has a photo re-sizer in 'Powertoys' that is real easy to use once downloaded & installed. all you do is right-click the picture that is saved on the hard drive and select 're-size picture', it will give you a couple choices, and re-save it with a slightly different file name in the same folder....Simple!!

Here's the link to Microsoft Powertoys: Image Resizer...it's a 521 K download, about 2 minutes @ 28.8 Kb modem. Scroll down, it's near the bottom of the page. www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspxI gave the link to the page with the list in case there are some others that you may be interested in.

Thanks, but I'm not ALL that proficient with computers, just TOO MUCH time on my hands, and far too many hours on the computer/internet. The pumping has been slow so far this spring, but it's sure to pick up when the bigger projects get the groundwork done. I'm willing to jump in and help anybody that posts a question that I think I can help with, but I'm no help line tech by any means. ;D

sounds like me...way too much time. the only way i figure things out is by searching around...have some computer knowledge, but that is limited, have not kept up on all the new stuff coming out but i still do okay. i would say i'm more software proficient than hardware for sure...never really got into that end of it.

that's the way it is with everything, as soon as you buy something, depreciation starts, and the next new thing comes right out and the price goes up so for the hot commodity so...i'd rather stay a step or two behind. cheaper that way. so the next time you get the itch to buy something, wait about two weeks for the new and improved, then shell out some cash to get it. but the good thing is that the replaced "whatever" always ends up cheaper when the new stuff comes out so...
