hi guys , one of my fellow drivers has just had a week from hell , firstly he was slumping his load and decided the truck was too far forward of the folding slump platform,got in and reversed back a liitle too far (forgot to fold stand up ) and almost knocked the stand down, day two..out on the job he moved the truck out of a driveway and the chute brake wasnt done up tight, chute swung around into the side of a parked car...$1800 bill to the company, day three exhaust stack on his mack metro liner ripped from brace and bent forward like a banana, havent got the goss on how it happened yet, i tell you nobody will be standin anywhere near this guy if there is any lightning around lol , any other guys out there have any similar stories ? if so how does your company respond to these little "accidents" , cheers from australia

I heard in training that before you are a full union employee (6 month probation), you can be fired for pretty much anything. We had a guy break one of those ganplank thingys on the slump master, and another guy back into a truck. Both are still here, and those incidents happened while they were on their trail periods.
But the guy that rolled a truck during his trail period, he's gone now.

We had a guy try to get an 11'6" truck under a 9' railroad bridge. Totaled the truck. He didn't get fired. A few years later he was pulling away from a job and hooked a steel cable on a telephone pole with his hopper. He snapped the pole in half and knocked out electricity for the neighborhood. He's had a couple of other accidents both in the yard and out. Oh, by the way, he's the guy who takes the new drivers out to show them the ropes.

we had a guy run his truck under some railroad tracks one day.. the dumbass went under and hit mid drum.. and got stuck for a second, and kept the drum turning.. then he backed up a little and hit it again and made it through.. put all kinds of holes in the drum.. but they kept him.. we have a 45 working day probation.. if you make it throught your days they have to have written a book about all the stuff you've messed up to get fired

Like any company we have our little screw up's. Unless you were being careless or destructive to company property they are generally forgiving. I have been there a little over 4 years and only 1 person has been let go for hitting things. We had a guy that had only been with us about 3 weeks. In a weeks time he had like 5 incidents all minor in nature. He left the water valve on 3 times, took another trucks mirror off, had a spill. What did him in was he backed into a pizza delvery guy that pulled up quick behind him while he was pouring a floor. His heart was in it but as a group we said he had to go. I work for a small company and if there is a small accident we fix it out of company money. We get the pay attention talk or you need to be more careful! Usually you just get ragged on for a couple months by the other drivers and that is the worst part.

Yep, I'd rather take the discipline from the office then deal with getting ragged on by the guys for 3 months........

Gant, I hear you about that probation thing. We've got a guy at work who had a bit too much 60's, and he's got a disciplinary record a mile long. But he'll be there until he's ready to retire. He kinda works at his own speed, he's always leaving his hopper up and chute unlocked (until they finally gave him a truck where the hopper doesn't move).
I was talking to a pump operator about him once. The pump guy said he was about to stop, so he gave the dude a horn honk to keep it low. It was still in discharge. He stopped pumping. It was still in discharge. Finally, he ran over to the trucks, and the guy was nowhere to be found. He apparently had wandered two blocks down the street and was looking at a car.
Ah, aren't unions great?

we have a guy that spend about 20 min rinsing his truck down before a load and uses the brush on it and everything.. then after a load he gets his brush back out and takes 45 min.. and the boss still keeps him but yells at us if we take to long.. and he guy will go over and completely detail his truck for hours and hours while we are loading and we have to go around him.. and the boss still doesnt give a shlt but if we do it he tells us were slowing down productivity.

^^^ We've got a guy like that too. His truck is flawless, but he's got quite the reputation. Pump operators, finishers, other drivers, they all know when Hollywood has been there. There's a huge puddle of water on the ground where he's washed his entire truck.
