Today I went to a pump job with ten yards. As I was pouring into the pump hopper the pump guy took his hose and squirted the concrete as it came down my chute. In the process he splattered me with concrete. I didn't say anything right away. A few minutes later he did it again getting it in my eye this time. I don't mind getting splattered with water...that happens every day, but I'd rather not get covered with concrete if I can avoid it. So, I said "Hey, I'm getting splattered here.". He ignored me and did it again. I said "Look....you're splashing that all over my face. Knock it off!". He ignored me again and did it a third time. This time I took my hose and gave him a good drenching. He got pissed at me. I said "Well, now that I have your attention...........knock it off!!". More and more I find myself getting annoyed with these guys. They think they own all your water. I've even had one guy ask me to wash his hose out since I was "just standing there". I am starting to hate going to pump jobs.

sometimes they are a pain in the ass..most of our jobs are pump jobs.. I've probably only used the chutes maybe 40 times in the last 6 months.. I like it when the laboror on the back of the pump backs us into stuff.. I really like it when its a tight squeeze and they try to get two trucks at the pump and dont look at our tag axles lol..

I came back and explained the whole ordeal to my plant manager. He kinda laughed. I try to not annoy people when I'm on the job but lately the a-holes are finding me. Maybe I need a vacation.

I'm thinking you do. That was out of line of him, though.
Most pump operators around here are pretty cool. Of course, I only went to two pump jobs all friggin' week, but that's beside the point. The only time I get irritated with them is when they complain about how hot the mud is, like I have something to do with that.

This time I took my hose and gave him a good drenching. That's funny as hell that you hit him back with the hose, I've got pissed off enough at guys where I wanted to get them with the water, but I held on to my nuts & walked away....Your my hero! ;D Drive Safe

I hate it when you bring the last load and you complete the the job & they think they can put the hose in your hopper to do a pump back to empty out their hopper and clean out. When they do that it trys my patience and makes a mess all over my drum.

we pour into those quite a bit.. I like them better than pumps.. they dont blow up or burp at you and they can empty you out faster

THE PERFECT FIX!
The hose is my biggest pet peave, "If you use it, put it back how you found it". It drives me nutty. So I put quick connects on all my hoses. You can get them at any Home Depot. They are about $5.95 ea. They have a male & female attachement and you can buy extra fittings if needed. When you dissconnect the nozzel there is a stopper inside so the water does not pour out. This way when the pump operators is an idiot you can take the nozzel away from him like he's 2 years old. I put lock-tight on all the threads so they can't be unscrewed. I leave a 5ft. section of hose on the truck and I have a 10 & 20ft. section hidden in my tool box, they just snap in when needed. I usually leave the 10 footer attached. If I go to a customer I don't like I hide the hose. and I put on an old nozzel that leaks down your arm and soaks ya. Since I have started doing this I have had very little problems and they usually play by the rules, "My Rules". Yes it cost me $20 or so dollars of my own money but it's worth it every time. I save all my old hoses and make the small sections as needed. A few other guys started doing this and it's great. The real awsome pump guys usually carry a male fitting with them already hooked to the tank and they fill there tank as needed. Works great! Some of the contractors are so dumb they cant figure out how simple the connector works so they walk away. And the best part is when they ask why the hose is so short I say some idiot didn't coil it up right, and I ran it over!

my biggest thing is people not rolling my hose up or they get it all muddy and nasty and then put it up.. I ran mine over a few months ago.. the got done using it while I was pouring and threw it on the ground and I backed over it while pouring.. I stopped the drum and got out and chewed his ass..

It drives me nuts when they come over to the truck to wash there tools and set them agaist the tires. The concrete hits the hot rims and sticks instantly. Or they spray them near the truck and splatter mud all over the truck, as if we don't have enough to wash, I recently got new chrome rims and they still look brand new. Then when you asked them to hose of the rim they look at you like your an idiot! I'm to the point now that all washing is to be done at the end of the pour when I can baby sit If I have to wait to wash my truck, they can wait to wash there tools.

most of our pump operators are ex mixer drivers so there is a love/hate relationship. what I dont get is the number of a holes that just jump on the phone and say that you the driver are banned from the job site. like your back in school being sent to principles office. I mean, I figure we mixer drivers take a whole lot more crap than dump truck drivers, garbage truck drivers, you name it. got a narrow job site and they get one truck too far over, then you come along to cadilac the pump but cant fit and the flag guy is having a fit at you to get the truck in the hole. well crap man if you got the other truck in there right I would already be parked. way too many customers/ superintendents just disrespecting drivers. and the company is so scared of loosing a customer they wont back the driver.

I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE WASH THEIR TOOLS OR BOOTS RIGHT WHERE YOU'RE STANDING OR OPERATING YOUR TRUCK . SO I WAIT FOR THEM TO FINISH THEN I STEP ON THEIR CLEAN STUFF ;D. MAN, THAT GETS THEIR ATTENTION .

have you guys ever poured into a tele-belt They're used alot up here. They don't seem to handle low slumps (1"- 2") as fast as pumps do. But for slabs or walls they're the cats ass!

I have one hose on my truck and it's the top one. It drapes down enough to follow the ladder down, curve at the bottom of the bumper and hang on my mirror. That water belongs to me. What ever does not go into the concrete is mine. They can have what ever is left after I'm done washing, if they are nice. If not, I'll drive right on back to the plant.
