My company is getting the plant a conveyor truck. They just took over our plant in may. I miss the old company, but the new one has 5 plants now. All the drivers at our plant make the same pay rate and the company wants me to run the conveyor but they dont want to give me any more $$$. So I was wondering what you guys out there made running one?

we have a few conveyor trucks at our other plants and we had one down for a job on friday and its funny you ask what they get paid because when I talked to him I had to ask lol.. he gets the normal hourly rate of 21.30 or so and then 50 cents for every yard that goes through his truck.. so that adds up.. plus he said he works alot more in the winter and gets to go to the city alot more.. when you go to the city you make $26 and some change an hour..

We have one conveyor truck. The guy who drives it gets the normal hourly rate plus $20 for every load he delivers using the conveyor.

Ya they want to give me the normal pay plus they give a bonus of $4 per load run across the conveyor. The company has 4 conveyors now. one per plant. They also give a bonus to all the drivers of.25 cents per yard hauled. They charge $14 per yard run across the conveyor. So $4 per load dont seem like a good deal.

My company has 3 conv trucks at my plant plus on teli belt conv truck. The regular conv operators make .75 cents more and the teli makes 1.25 more any hour. In the whole fleet we have 8 convs and 1 teli belt.

98% are conveyor here, and the last 2% get the same wage as the rest of us. only people on a different wage is "airborne" and pump drivers.
*airborne - People who dont have a truck, but are put to a different plant anywhere next day. moved around ALOT. when people are sick, etc etc,.

I'm from New England, and I don't beleive I have ever seen one. I have seen some on the internet, some built into a mixer and some on a seperate truck. Why are they used and how often are they needed?

how often ?
well since we have them the costumers have gotten used to them. makeing the sites suited for that aswell.. so basicly when not using it its becourse a costumer want a "phat/dry" concrete pured in a pile so they can take their time, shoveling it or some times also emptying the truck to whell barrels.
other wise i would guess we use it for 9/10 loads. but are also meeting a increasing demand on "small" pumps, so instead of conveyer on the truck regular trucks are now fittet with a pump. so the selection is greater.
As for why ? greater reach, plus unloading upwards to around 2-3rth floor no problem. or of to the sides. alot of brigde work.. so basicly instead of a crane and bucket conveyers.
As for needed ?
well never, concrete was pured until the 1950-1960's without conveyers and was still able to build. but the speed is far greater. a load is unloaded usually around 12minuttes.
------ But in general i would say. - its a service not a requirement. - costumers like services.
