Tell me some storys if you guys ever spilled your load on roads or streets due to stupid people driving or those sudden stop lights changing green to red suddenly or what ever. I know i have done it and had to neutral rev full charge my barrel at a stop looking like a idiot trying to prevent a spill. And usally it's when im fully loaded with a wet load.

When I first started I was hauling flowable fill or pump flow.. and no one really told me what it was or what the difference was.. well I was taking a drink of my water and was putting it back in my cooler when the light changed and i let the clutch out a little quick and out it came lol.. luckily there wasnt any cars behind me..just called the plant and they brought out the sweeper and got it up... I think it was my first week of driving

we had a guy dump his entire load down a city storm drain in was a 5000psi auger cast mix at a 9inch slump he got out to go to subway and came back and didnt even notice he dumped it out. cost the company a little over 100,000 to clean it up.

we had this guy, twice he dumped, once was on the corner of a 55 mph highway and a side street just coming into town, it had just finished raining and the sun came out so it got humid as hell, me and my loader operator shoveled a nice 6 x 9 pad off on the side of the road, both of these incidents occurred in 2002, it still sits there. The other time it happened, he dumped throgh a major intersection, through the light, over some railroad tracks into an empty lot where he dumped a good size pile, all for about a 1/4 mile. That was a sweet one. On the first dump, it was going to a late wall, about a 45 minute ride, some pour schmuck had to run another yard out there because this idiot dumped it out, it was sweet.

I was cruising down the highway once, coming to an interchange, only doing 55 or so. There was a car in front of me and I was trying to keep my distance, but you know how hard that is to do. There was a rig wanting to come on the highway and guess what the car in front of my decides to do? Stop on the highway to let the truck out. HOLY ****!!! I'm driving a 98 OshKosh with 10 yds of 8" 4000 mix, no jake brake. Slam on the brakes, pull the lever back to charge the drum. Talk about having a heart attack! Well, luckily the truck sped up in time and the car continued before I rearended her and only lost about a wheel barrow and a half, but it didnt start coming off the chute til about 1/4 mile down the highway. Figure that out? Nice save!

many of our trucks including me, often spill. it happens. except depending on from which factory we got the mix from some got a service with the local entreprenour or which ewer contracter to clean it up. other plants required the driver to drive back and clean it himself. But often people either dont see it spill, or they wont ALL 325 of our trucks are rearloaded. so easy to miss if doing a thight curve a bit to fast with a wet mix. oh well.

Hmm sounds like someone needs to invent a truck with a cappable barrell...

that would be a pain in the ass.. depending on how the cap was put on and off..
at my company they are big on keeping the trucks hammered out so we dont have this problem too much... only trucks that really spill are the sticks..the autos have enough turbo lag that they dont have alot of power off the line.. but as soon as it shifts to second gear it will throw you in the seat

We just don't load our trucks full. With a few exceptions, I see a lot of guys with locations in flat states. A 15% grade hill here is very common, we've even got a 30% hill (steepest hill in the world with a road is 35%, in New Zealand). If there is a super steep hill or driveway, the contractor is supposed to let us know so we don't load a truck full. That, and anything over 6" slump we have a 9 yard per truck maximum.

flowable fill is evel. even cutting back to 8 yard loads I have had the stuff splash out the back after a hard stop. have even seen it coming out of the truck with the drum spun up and making a quick turn and it was still coming out of it. agilia is bad also. take a gallon of it and pour it on the ground and it will self level to a pancake between 26 and 30 inches in diameter. like hauling water.

agilia is the trade mark name for a mix similar to grout. we sell it as something different as grout. basically similar but is doped up with chemicals.

Hmm sounds like someone needs to invent a truck with a cappable barrell... They do have something that hooks onto the chute to keep spills from coming out onto the road. They are a pain.

If you want to get a big fat ticket try flying around a corner with a wet load and a Motorcycle cop sitting on the corner, they have no since of humor when you spill on them. Cost one of our drivers $300 for the ticket, when all the cop really wanted to do was take him to jail.

My worse spill was when I was a rookie I was going to 600 9th st. Im like cool ok, i look on the map there is a 600 east and 600 west. When I get to 9th st I decide to go east pass the house nothing. Ok its west then. I go around the block adjacent to a school come up on a 4 way intersection that has stops all around with a semi steep incline. I'm driving a clunker with no power so I say to myself eff it I'm not stopping I'm going to take it. I start the approach with momentum just as I reach the top bam...... had to stop suddenly an old lady in a walker decides to cross the street I'm like sh!t!! I turn right and I see my mess about 3/4 yd. So i hurry up get to the house they end up telling me they cant use the load b/c the inspector wasnt coming Im like ok see ya!

WE USE SPILL GUARDS ON OUR CHUTES ALL IT IS IS A PIECE OF 1/4 - 3/4 5/8 IN RUBBER CUT TO FIT THE CHUTE WHEN IT IS FOLDED UP IN TRANSPORT .WHEN WE ARE READY TO POUR IT SIMPLY HANGS DOWN OUT OF THE WAY UNDER THE CHUTE I'VE HAD NO SPILLS WITH IT. IN THE CHUTE BUT NOTHING HIT THE ROAD THAT NEEDED ME TO STOP AND CLEAN UP. AND THEY ARE HOME MADE WE CHANGE THEM ABOUT EVERY THREE MONTHS.

^^^ I guess I thought all chutes came with those. Ours are metal, they usually last longer than the flop chutes do. I can't imagine why someone would not have one.

I can't talk about my most recent spill. The case is still pending. I go back to court on Thursday. They're tough here in Jersey . I'll fill you in on the details on Friday. Oh I can't wait.......................................................... OK....here goes. We had a big pump job going down in Jersey City last month. The first few trucks called the office and said that they were running out of water. So, when I was getting loaded the batcher gave me some extra water. He told me about it and I let the load mix a little longer before I left the plant. But, when I hit a hill in Jersey City I lost a few wheelbarrows of 'crete. Just my luck there was a cop right behind me. He gave me a summons that required a mandatory court appearance. I went to court last month and tried to explain to the female prosecutor the dynamics of loading a mixer. She shook her head and said that she would rather hear from the cop just how much concrete I spilled. A tea spooonful or a truckload? She suggested that I plead "Not Guilty" and she'd set a trial date and subpeona (I just know that ain't spelled right) the cop. So, this morning I went back to the Jersey City Municipal Court. I was there. The judge was there. The prosecutor was there with 37 8X10 color glossy prints.........no, wait a minute.....that was "Alice's Restaurant". Anyway, the cop never showed his face and the judge dismissed all the charges. I am free to spill again, my bruthas!!!!
