I want everybody to tell what company they work for and the parent company if necessary. It will be a good idea to become familiar with other companies around the country. I will go first. I work for transit mix concrete, which is owned by trinity industries. I have been here for 6 months. Before that I worked for bodin concrete, a small family owned company, for 4 years. I was a dispatcher/batchman for go-crete for a year. Before that I worked for lattimore for 6 years. Driver for 2, batchman for 4. Got started doing road construction. Been in the business 12 years.

I work for Joel Tanis & Sons in Fair Lawn, NJ. It was family-owned since the 1940's until the grandsons sold it in 2005. I got hired in 1974 and stayed until 2002. I left to try working for The Dept. Of Homeland Security at Newark-Liberty Intl. Airport. It didn't work out and after being gone for nine months I got hired back at Tanis. I lost my 28 years seniority but I'm happy just to be working.

When Tanis was sold in '05 it was the first time it had ever been sold since the 1940's. It had always been in the hands of the Tanis family. In '06 the new owner bought Service Concrete in Oak Ridge, NJ and merged it with the company I work for.

I work for Cemex. We are owned by Cemex.
Used to be Rinker.
Before that, CSR.
In the beginning, it was Associated Sand and Gravel.
But those first two were way before my time. Cemex just bought us out last year, still going through the merger stuff.

Started back in 1980 for what was then United Metro Materials, a part of the Tanner Companies( mostly construction, and Paving). Late 80's Co. was sold to APAC, the construction leg of Ashland Oil. Early 90's Co. was sold to PKS,( Peter Kiewit and Sons). At that time they owned one of the competeing co.s in town called Union Rock. They disbanded Union Rock and all thier employees became United Metro employees. Late 90's Kiewit sold us to Rinker Materials, and last year as you may know Cemex bought us out. Word is that Cemex is going to run us seperately from Cemex plants. Probably because we're Union and they are'nt.

I worked for Owens Brothers Concrete for 18 years started in 1960, a family owned business. They cared about drivers, all of the owners were drivers, even the brothers were told to drive a mixer for 2 years before going into the office. They had 7 plants and 110 trucks. Then came Boral, the Aussies, they bought up our company and another merged the 2 and became the 2nd largest in Denver. I didn't like being a number so I went to another family owned company Bestwayconcrete.com They are more like the company I started for in the early 80's. They still care for the drivers unlike most, you at least have a name here. Times are different these days but they still value experience and commitment. Its owned by Americans and they have a strict code of hiring. Just this last month 5 employees were let go for being illegal, Now we have 150 trucks and 8 plants, at least when I go to work my time card has a name on it and not a card swipe number. Times are a changing out there my friends, but a computer will never replace a mixer driver ........how do you insert a hyperlink anyone know? Have a good day, off today -4 outside on will call, you know the drill. Where is the beer? My liver needs a shot. ;D

I haven't driven a manual in over four months. I gotta say, I don't really miss it, especially doing curbs and hills.
