Did another war start? What's with the price of fuel & a barrel of oil? Are the 'crete companies charging a fuel surcharge, or just bumping the entire rate?
I'm a pumper, fuel isn't the major cost, but it can't be ignored either. Gotta re-coup it sooner or later (I'm thinking sooner), I can't keep absorbing it. I've been paying a fuel surcharge on my freight ever since I can remember.
Lemme know what's happening in your end of the country.

Yes, most concrete companies are charging a fuel surcharge these days. They won't bump the price per yard, because they still want that to sound good when people inquire or we bid jobs. The biggest complaint I find is that the fuel surcharge rate is the same regardless of how far away the job is from the plant. If you are thinking of adding a fuel surcharge, I would suggest maybe a 2 or 3 tier system of surcharge depending on how far away the job is from your base. There is no doubt that the cost of fuel is [glow=red,2,300]outrageous!! [/glow] :oThe price is predicted to continue to rise, with no end in site. I just took delivery of a brand new motorcycle today in an effort to lower my commute costs. Ethanol factories are starting to pop up in my area as well. It will be interesting to watch the progress of alternative fuels and methods of transportation in years to come.

My Boss aint tacking on a surcharge yet,,,but he is talking about it,only thing stopping him is other producers in area are not, so he doesnt do it either,,(yet) Since we are a brand new redi-mix plant in our area and are fueling up at a local truck stop I see what he is drinking in deisel fuel each day. I sure wouldnt want that bill. I have gone thru well over 100 gals a day several times allready this year. I would be willing to bet redi-mix trucks are using alot more fuel per day then the pump trucks since we go to more sites each day (usually) Back and forth all day. In same breath I relize pump trucks go the long haul to get to the site..Fuel has got to be a major cost for anyone. Did I read it right?? Matt is on two wheels now What did ya buy?? Dont tell me its a Rice rocket ;D Be safe bro

the company I work for has added a fuel surcharge onto every ticket, but there has not been any price associated to that yet. so...i'm sure it's coming pretty soon. like you said earlier, we can't be expected to keep eating the cost of fuel.

Hey Batchmaster,,I wonder if the Ladys in the front office are adding it to the invoices that actually get mailed out to the customer??? As we all know concrete prices arnt allways added to to the load tickets, since prices are all over the map depending on who the customer is.Prices change for each customer,, I bet the same will or does happen to fuel charges?

Well, now they are talking about adding the fuel surcharge, but driver, as far as the girls in the office adding it, it wasn't happening. The head honchos just wanted everyone to get used to seeing it there, and when a charge did pop up for it they will be prepared. But the top customers for each plant, the day to day pourers, still will not have the added fuel surcharge. sorry it took so long for the reply, haven't been on in a while.
