So a bit of an update (sorry for being on topic 
).
The plant manager called me about a seasonal position in the asphalt QC department last week. He said he called me first, and that there would be an application waiting for me at the front desk, which there was. They made sure to forward it to him directly, so to make sure it went through all the proper channels.
Goes to show that sometimes good work does get rewarded, and loyalty still does exist.
