Yup, they had to lay off 7 guys, and I was 7th from the bottom. D'oh.
I'm bummed, but it could be worse.
First of all, I'm the first one they call back. Second, the plant manager said he tried really hard to keep me on, because of the extra training I've done (OshKosh, mostly), and I have no reason to not believe him (union rules. Can you believe I got let go BECAUSE I'm in a union?). Third, I can continue my Teamster membership while I'm off and ergo keep my unemployment going. And fourth, once the company realizes they weren't paying anything to keep me, maybe they'll see the error of their ways.
Anyway, I will keep on the board here because I liked my job, and wish to continue it in one form or another.

Sucks dude. Kinda why I took the batch job at my plant. Hours were few and far between (5th of 7 drivers). Now one has left and were down to 5 drivers with 1 at 62yrs old ready to retire anytime. And no plans to hire as of yet. Things are bound to pick up, spring in Washington is slower than the winters. But summers right around the corner.

how much is your unemployment up there in the great state of washington? $502, but I get $50 per week taken out for taxes. Works out to be about $12.50 per hour. Thanks for the well wishes, fellas. I'm sorta weighing things right now, one eye on monster.com, and one ear by the telephone.

more than our unemployment..ours is 320+ an additional $25 from the "great" obama and no taxes are held out of ours until we draw $2600

Oh, don't get me started on Obama.
Actually, the tax thing is optional for us, so I could be getting the whole amount, but that would suck come tax time.
I went and turned my keys in today, told the dispatcher I was lending them to him for a while. He wanted to make sure I wasn't looking for a new job, because he thought it would be temporary. So that's encouraging.

thats why I called him "great" I know how you feel about him lol.. it should be temporary.. they leave us at home and bring us in when they can "use and abuse us" and then sit us at home.. but it doesnt cost them shlt..

Hey Mort, This is Tony. I was in the class with you at Rinker. I left Rinker in August 2008, i pretty much saw the writing on the wall for me, at least.
I was wondering, who from our training class is still hanging in there?
Im working full time at Inderbitzin Dist. as of now. Sure do miss being behind the wheel . I saw Lonnie today in his cowboy hat cruising down HWY 9 in Lake Stevens. And I actually have ran into Sherman numerous times.

Hey Tony, good to hear from you.
As far as I know, Thomas, Dan, Greg, and Kyle are still there, although Kyle is ready to move to Texas. Mitchell and I got laid off at the same time, but as I said, I hope its temporary.
A lot of changes, really. Russell was made to retire, so Chris is running both plants. Nobody is getting any hours. And they finally made Lonnie get rid of his old Volvo. He probably had a funeral for it.
Keep in touch, dude.

Or i'm an old duff Everybody thinks that the Marines had it tough. Well, I was in the USAF (Vietnam Vet 71-72) and let me tell you we had it tough, too. There were times, when I was stationed at Myrtle Beach AFB, that the A/C in the barracks broke down and we had to sweat it out for the night. Sometimes they didn't have enough charcoal for our weekly BBQ'd steak and corn-on-the-cob dinner and we had to have burgers and hot dogs on the stove instead. It was awful.....just awful!!

Someone had to take care of those planes that brought much needed fire support. The different branches fight amongst each other, but when the s**t hits the fan we are all fighting men & women.

Yeah, I agree with that. Even in the fire dept. I belong to we have rivalry between the two companies. But, when an alarm comes in we're one department and we do our job.
