Interviewed yesterday and was offered the plant manager job at my plant today. Real mixed feelings about it. Will miss getting out in the field, now sitting in an office for 10+ hours a day. But it's salary so snow day's (weeks) I'm still getting paid.
But I was given the job over another driver who is higher in seniority and has been the fill-in batch man for the last few years. So I'm sure there's going to be some hard feelings, but I just laid out my best info and reasons I should get the job and the company made it's own decision.
Now for the break-in phase.

Congratulations, I think! Who knew a driver could manage other people, let alone themselves?

I think all managers should have been drivers at first, they know how it is out there..

I think all managers should have been drivers at first, they know how it is out there.. Amen to that. I've always said there are two realities: The one that management and sales lives in, the other that the workers live in. Not just in redimix, but everywhere.

Good job,,,,,,,As long as you remember your roots you'll do just fine. Its a pressure cooker up there so be ready. You can't please everyone all the time, let the small stuff roll off and the handle what you know and you will do a great job.

Two days of training so far......Think I've already aged 5 years. I have more respect for the job my boss does, he makes it look so easy.

So, how are the phones, ringing off the hook 8 on hold sometimes ;D ;D ;D ;D,,,,, Having a great time with the Cod's and the sales dept and the office dept. Lets not forget color or admixes, oh what fun your having, (yea right) you will, Oh almost forgot have the drivers started to get on you yet . If it gets to be to much ask for a break go outside and get some air come back and start all over again Remember when you drove? you probably made that look easy, the more practice you get doing anything the easier it will become, just think summer is almost here. Good Luck ;D ;D ;D ;D

Just glad I'm getting into this job during the slow time of the year. We are the end plant out of the four our company runs. So I'm kinda at the end of the world. We are down to 5 drivers now with one that quit a couple months ago, and me in the office now. Did do over a 100 yards before noon today. Then stared at the walls for 3 hours. I have to admit all the drivers are really cool about it. Even the other driver that applied for the job has also has been great. I was second from the bottom as far as seniorty goes (5 1/2 years in the mixer). But we really do all get along well so as far as that goes, a good bunch of guys to work with. So the trade-off is hemmeroids for ulcers :-)

All I can say is, "May God have mercy on your soul." I've sat in that chair before and you can have it. I like my dime a dozen, not responsible for anything chair.

Well two months in and still have my hair (although it's a little grayer). Now work has dried up so bad that I have alot of quiet time in the afternoon. Feel sorry for the guys, the hours a few and far between. Where's all the Obama money? Frickin Union made huge donations to his campain without asking any of us. So where's the payoff?
