Do you fuel in the yard or use a fuel card down town? We use a fuel card and since we have tiny 47 gallon fuel tanks I often fuel twice a day.

We have a guy that does that. He drives a fuel truck around, and magically the next morning, they're full.

Imagine that..we had a guy that worked for a company that their drivers didnt inspect their trucks, they didnt raise the hood.. the couldnt even check the oil or they were fired..it was all union mechanics work, they didnt even fuel their trucks up and if they needed fuel throughout the day they had their oiler(apprentice) go out in the fuel truck and top them all off..Man they got the life lol, it took me 3 weeks to get me fukcing heater fixed, and I had to help him do it.. Hell we had a guy blow a drive tire on his way back to the yard on his last load and it was dark and they told him to worry about it in the morning when he can see, well we didnt work for a week and a half after that and went in and the tire was still wasn't changed, so they had to rush and change it in the morning instead of it being done while he wasnt working..It's like the blind leading the blind

They couldn't check the fluids or raise the hood? That's illegal. I wouldn't drive a truck that didn't have a proper pre-trip.

The mechanics had them checked out and started in the mornings when they came in.. You are still responsible for doing a pre-trip. There are times, especially in the winter, when I come in and my truck is already started. I'm guilty of just climbing in and taking off on occasion, but what I really should do is turn it off and do a proper inspection. I get lazy sometimes.

We have a tank at the plant. Also, a fuel truck comes after hours every other day and tops the trucks and the tank off.

Sometimes I get lazy and phone it in. We use Zonar, so it tells the company how long it took to do our pre-trip and everything, but sometimes I won't raise the engine cover, just reach my arm in there and scan the dot. I'm usually pretty by-the-book, though, except for the air brake test. I've never seen anyone do that after their CDL test.

We get 20 minutes for a pre trip, but I've had times they were like as soon as your truck is started I gotta load you.. The main office was calling because I wasn't loaded yet lol.. I told them it's in the contract I get 20 minutes to check my truck out, they can wait

That sucks.
We park across the street, and have to log in to our TracerNet and drive across the street before dispatch even knows we're there. In two years, I've only been ticketed before logging in once.

Man, they ticket us before we even get there! Then they scream that we are late getting loaded. The best batchman they had quit yesterday because the dispatcher is a complete idiot and has no idea how to treat his employees.

They dont ticket us until its our turn to load and we are backing under the plant.. We have a central dispatch up in the city and the batchmen have no idea where the truck is going till central prints them a ticket, leaves everyone in the dark, but our plant prints their own ticket..

You know, reading a lot of stories on how other plants do things, I don't feel so bad about ours. Our dispatchers have their s**t together compared with a lot of others.
They know which jobs and customers can take OshKoshs, and which need conventional, which customers like composite drums, or manual transmission only jobs, experienced drivers, what have you. Its rare that they mess stuff like that up, after you tell them once.

my company doesnt care about that kinda stuff.. I've had customers tell me to not come back till I get my truck fixed"chute lock was broke" and they would send me right back out to the same job..
