I live near St.Louis Missouri and I heard on the radio last Friday 1-9-09 that a man was working on the conveyor belt at the plant and got his arm caught in the belt and had to be lowered by a helicoptor from the top of the plant. He is going to be OK but I am sure it will leave some effects.
No matter how skilled you or your plant guys are... Keep SAFETY on the tip of your tounge and top of your mind.

A simple lock out tag out procedure would have saved that man from hurting himself. His fault for working unsafe. Company's fault for not making him work safe or providing the necessary tools or know how to be safe. Remember: NOBODY is in charge of YOUR safety except YOU!

Yeah, aside from the drug policy, violation of Lock Out/Tag Out is the only other thing that is zero tolerance at our plant.

We had a night mechanic working alone until 12:00, he was working on one of the old tuck under boosters. The tags woulden't come out and for some reason he had his head under the truck. It must have come loose but it caught his head between the axle and a frame support and took it off. Know one knew until the batch man came in the morning and the truck was still running . Now all mechanics work in pairs with radios so if one gets into trouble there is someone else and a way to get help. To bad these things happen, cheap ass company's, the only way they spend money is to save themselves.
