Hey guys
After my first post in the pics of your mixer thread I told my employer about this site he said to ask if any one (International) is considering migrating to Australia.
Brisbane in particular is booming ATM 3-4 government jobs currently on the go 400,000 + yards each with work already secured for the next 11 years, I also just heard on the radio our state government has announced the construction of a new subway - forecast $14billion project.
Brisbane I guess is unlike most cities, as in we don’t have seasons.... we are sub tropical so the weather is perfect for concrete all year round.
Pay generally is on a salary basis $60,000pa + load bonus and we are avenging 50-60 hours a week.
My boss is a contractor to Australasia’s biggest construction material supplier I think they own several U.S based business like Monier etc among other Asian and European business.
Anyway let me know, I'm sure if you are considering it I'll be able to find a position for experienced operators - demand far out ways supply and I'm sick of all the training needed by new guys, 3 green horns a month

Haven't you ever seen a Foster's commercial?
Geez, before I got married, I would've jumped at the chance. But of course, I didn't know how to drive a mixer then.

Is it cheap to live out there?

Wow what a responce.... are things really that tough over there at the moment? I knew there was a down turn in housing due to the international financial situation but far out. I've received lots of Pm's about this post so instead of repeating myself over and over (I do drive a mixer 10 hours a day) I'll post part of a PM I sent to another member. I want to point out (emphasize) we cant help with your immigration or associated needs all we can offer is a job however I will send you links to relative information, you will need to set most of this up yourself. We are prepared to ease you into the Australian Mixer industry no doubt it is different to what you are use to, even the driving side of things will take a little time to get use to. Things you need to research: Tax www.ato.gov.auQueensland Transport (license) www.transport.qld.gov.auImmigration www.immi.gov.au/immigration.htmHousing links www.domain.com.au/www.realestate.com.au/You will need a car within the first 2-3 weeks as public transport here sux. And last of all please do research it, I would imagine it to be quite a lengthy and costly process but at the end of the day at least you would have a job here. There is plenty of skilled work available in all areas of construction and mining (currently in a resource boom) particularly in Queensland and Western Australia. If you are genuinely interested please contact my employer Grant Daniels grant.daniels@bigpond.com with a resume and or other information you think he might need. Cheers guys

I checked out the immigration website and they have a list of jobs that are currently experiencing a shortage in Australia. I didn't see "driver" or "truck driver" on the list. If your particular area of expertise isn't on the list you ain't getting in to Australia on a work visa. It's the same with Canada. That's the way I understood it anyway. There is a job listed on there called a "drainer". I'm almost afraid to ask what kind of draining they're talking about.

I have been checking into that myself. I am thinking the same thing. The only thing I found on that list is a concrete plant operator. I have lots of batchman experience, but getting hired straight on there as a batchman would be like trying to do it here. Everybody wants you to work your way up. I dont see any real way of getting in the country. I looked at places to live. OMG!!! $350-$800 a week. For a house in town, dont even think of looking at rural houses. I just dont think it is going to happen.
