It's like that any time in life. Stand up and don't get pushed, or lie down and get rolled over. *shrug*

We can do that, we shouldnt but we do. Our outfit is the type that will lose 10 customersjust to gain 5 new ones and they dont care. Her in cali we nearly have the market cornered as far as powder is concerned. We're taking a lot of our competitors customers b/c we can lower the price of mud as low as we want and still manage to make a profit where as our competitors can't. Ever since mitsubishi took us over we sell raw material to our compeitors. Before that it was'nt even thought of. Now our company sells material to them and its a slap in their face. The economy is'nt helping matter any either.

If a customer is throwing a tantrum to no fault of mine, then I have walked back and said, "look you want the mud", then we have to work together if not then Im leaving. I tell them that dispatch is already aware of his state of mind and that I don't have to take his crap. If he wants another truck it will be 3 hours, they will usually cool down, if not I read the paper until he does, that really lets them know you mean business. There are always exceptions but most of the time this works.

I havent had a bad pour in probably a year atleast..and I dont even remember what it was..We never have any issues with customers..alot of them are annoying and try to tell you how to do your job like when you're pouring in a pump " slow it down, stop, speed it up, etc" that kinda stuff gets old and when they do that I hand them the controls and they look all confused and I tell them obviously they can do it better..I had a guy try to run the truck when I gave him the controls lol and he over ran the pump..he shut up after that

I'm 6'1, 220lbs and ugly so I don't get a whole lot of anger directed at me.
With my present employer I once had a customer tell me that if I didn't cross the "G*d damned bridge" (it was marked six ton) I could take the "effin sh!t" back to the plant.
I smiled, threw the truck in reverse and said, "Alright! Thank you, Sir - you have a nice day now!". I moved about five feet before he jumped up on my running board and calmly said, "Dude, wait. My boss is wantin' to get that kennel floor poured today....what do I need to do to make that happen?".
I smiled and said, "Track me out a route with no tonnage limited bridges on it".
He did and was as sweet as pie for the entire pour.
With my first ready-mix company I was forced to work on a Saturday after high winds destroyed some Mennonite barns.
The primary finisher was not a Mennonite and was actually a regular customer of one of our competitors. He kept whining (and I mean whining) "I wish we coulda got brand x to do this pour - I hate ya'lls mud."
After about the tenth time he said this I snapped and said, "I wish to God you coulda got 'em too 'cuz if you think I wanna be here on a effing Saturday when I could be in bed playin' grab-@$$ with the old lady yer outta yer G*ddamn mind!".
He turned beet red and the Mennonites just went to giggling.
(I was making $7 an hour at that time so getting fired really wouldn't have hurt my feelings too much ;D.)

after a contractor had taken off the third chute and literally thrown it across the driveway i calmly stopped the drum, set the brakes, picked up the chute, washed it (taking my time of course) and hung it back on the truck; when i was done with that he walked up and asked if i was done f***ing around to which i replied "if you ever pull that s*** again and abuse my equipment you'll get whatever ive got left in a big f***ing pile right behind the truck and ill leave" poured a couple times for him after that, and never had a problem

when the contractors get a**hole'ish us AZ boys become bigger a**holes . Just remember the captin of the ship speech, and our ace up our, sleeve we control how and where his mud ends up. We dont get mad we get even. And i also agree as many have said pull up lock chutes and door stop drum and he will calm his self or u leave! I dont know where u are in michigan but in bigger markets like the cities the stuff u are describing seem like that guy wouldnt have a job long anyways

I love to tell this story. Was on a pour one day for a big local construction outfit, the crew boss is a grade A A$$HOLE. We have all had run-ins with him from time to time. Anyway we were doing some city sidewalks and I had walked to the back when they were done with that section to ask where the next walk was. And he was screaming and yelling at his crew (for no good reason at all). Then he shouted out a racial slur at one of his crew (said "I'm gonna sell you to the niXXers") I waited a few moments then quietly said to him "you know my wife is black", even though she isn't. He wouldn't look at me or say anything, all the while I was just staring at him. His crew all stopped dead in their tracks thinking I was about to jump him, and I just winked at them. After a couple minutes of silence he finally looked at me and said "hey I didn't mean to offend you". I let him off the hook a little later and told him I was just screwing with him. But I tell you what he has never been a problem for me since that day.

We had a crew made up of recent Mexican immigrants who seemed to thrive on cursing our drivers in Spanish and allowing us to run over forms, tools, etc.
We just happened to hire a third generation Colorado redneck Mexican named "Baldonado" who dressed and acted like John Wayne but still spoke his grandfather's native Spanish.
The first time Baldonado and I went to the all Mexican crew they tried to get him angry. He just looked at them calmly, spoke to 'em in Spanish and they got real quiet real fast.
When we got back to the plant I asked him what he had told them. He said, "Well, I just told 'em that I knew 90% of 'em was illegal and that I was personal friends with the local sheriff and that if they wanted to keep f*cking with me I'd call my buddy out here and have every one of their ass*s deported."
Do you know that from then on that particular crew requested Baldonado every time ;D!?!

tell managment if they dont do something about a problem contractor, you ll go to the labor board/ and the union. Dont let anyone out there push you around.Remember safety first, always mention SAFETY.It always works. Its thier problem not yours
