HOW DO YOU GUYS HANDLE THIS? im sure every ready mix company out there has 1 or more ass hole contractors like this out there.

Dump 20 pounds of sugar in the load between the plant and the jobsite. > > > No, don't, just kidding.
Let management know what a thingyhead this guy is and have them refuse service to him. Make a note of what he does on the load ticket.

I stop the truck and refuse to continue until he calms down. I'll let dispatch know what I'm doing. They'll say to roll up my window and smile. Then I'll say I feel uncomfortable and will leave this hostile situation unless he calms down. If he steps on my fender he'll meet up with my hammer. Usually doesn't come to that. He wants to get done and doesn't want a cold joint. So he calms down or at least shuts his mouth, and I continue doing my job.
If I know the contractor, I'll step out on the fender and say, "You know, Jim, you have two choices here. You can either rake the concrete like this (making a motion like normal raking procedure) or like this ( making a motion like it's piled ten feet high), your choice. It's my job to put it on the ground and yours to make it look pretty

if they start screaming and yelling at me I usually "accidentally" give them full wheel barrows.. and if it gets too bad I'll pull up and start to wash down my chutes and tell him he's gonna shut his mouth and let me pour or he can call and get another truck.. they usually shut up

Slumpy, If you don't feel safe there's nothing they can do to you. That's all you have to say. " I don't feel safe. Either call this guy and calm him down or I'm leaving." A lawyer would eat them alive if they disciplined you for leaving.

"Kill Em' with Kindness", I look at it like this, Don't piss off the waitress before you get your food. For the floor guys, when they are difficult and then they say "put more water in it" I tend to keep the water valve open bit longer. It's like spitting in there food. Yeah it makes them a bit more mad, but while I'm home relaxing there still on the floor. We don't do a lot of commercial work so you can get a way with a bit more. My company is big into clean trucks and clean equipment so the truck has first priority over water. If they tend to be difficult customers I will usually make my self run out of water. They never catch on and there tools always weigh a few extra pounds. That's more of a long term Hah hah! The only bad thing is your always dumping water out of your drum before you get loaded again. Or just pack up and leave. The company will usually back up the drivers. I am very lucky that we have a lot of small customers that are usually great to deal with. A few years ago the company cleaned house and got rid of all the problem customers. Makes life a bit easier, but there coming back. Just try to stay ahead of them. ;D

I've had a coupla good battles over the years, most all with the "Joe Cool" contractor with the big, shiny pickup with the girl figures on the mudflaps, Calvin pissing on a Ford in the rear window, and wearing a nice clean pair of workboots, blue jeans, clean gloves, pager & cell phone on his hip, ect, ect. Give me the big DOT jobs, or a nice small homeowner any day. We have a pumping company I'm getting fed up with too, his 2 drivers think their king nutss. They love my water, one day I'm gonna drown them, then retire. Drive Safe Men.....

I haven't been doing this very long, and I'm a pretty calm guy, so I usually just grit my teeth and carry on. After all, in a half an hour, I'll be gone, and they'll still be there working their backs until they break making less money than I do Of course, I've never had a contractor be abusive, so I guess I'd have to resort to more drastic measures if that were to happen.

I think the first thing we need to do is get to know our customers. There are guys out there that are instant a**hole's just add concrete. As soon as the last rock hits the ground they calm down. We need to know who we can joke with, who we can mouth off to and who we need to just pack up and leave. Believe me, dispatch knows who the a**'s are. They have to listen to them on the phone all day. We as drivers need to let the customer and dispatch know that we will not take abuse. I can understand a guy being upset for one reason or another. I can let that go in one ear and out the other. Abuse I will not tolerate, and neither should any of you.

That guy sounds like a certified A-hole, Slumpy. I wouldn't let anything he says bother me. I've come to realize that any honest job is an honorable way to make a living. I don't care if a person scrubs garbage cans for a living....he's doing honest work and that makes him a winner not a loser.

I here ya my 5 yr old boy went with me to work yesterday. He love it when I take him on a Saturday, I let him load all the wheelbarrows. Luckily all the contractors around here are real good!! I know them all and get along with them all great. The only time you might have a problem is with out of towner's.

We have a few a**holes around here. I just started smiling and nodin my head. It just ticks them off even more. Sometimes if I'm really feeling ornery I just speed up the drum a lil bit, just to see how fast they can move.
I've told them all...... The easier they are on me- the easier I'll be on them.

This isn't a contractor, but when I used to sell auto parts we sponsored a local racer that was high maintenance. He was yelling and screaming about the price of some Royal Purple Oil that we sold him (back when oil was still cheap). He went on and on for about five minutes, and I just stood there the whole time, leaning on the counter with a half-smile on my face. He finally paused, and I looked him right in the eye, and said, "Robb, you need to enhance your chi."
He goes, "My chi?"
"Yeah, your inner self. You need to be more centered."
He started cracking up laughing and walked off. He was in a better mood after that. I haven't gotten the chance to use that on a contractor yet, but I'm saving it up.

You guys are all to kind, Personally I can be more ignorant than any of them when I want to be. But if I pull up and someone is shout and yelling, its possible I might just fly out the truck screaming who the fu*k you shouting at, that normally silences the situation. Personally I didn't sign up for crap and if any thing I give them crap, as we have the odd few people and places that are none to good and the odd company as well.

It all depends on my mood the way I handle them. I have come unglued, Ive said nothing and just smiled when there flipping out that usually pisses them off pretty good, I once told them I'm leaving packed up my truck drove away came back about 10 min later that did a good job changing there demeanor. I told them next time I leave I wont come back. Then one time A homeowner was doing his garage floor it was the first time he worked with concrete and he was just about the worst I ever dealt with I dumped the load full discharge in the garage and left. The local guys are real cool around here though. The only time there are problems are when the guys from the big city come to town to do something. It helps that I can getaway with anything at my plant its a good working environment and my boss is a real good friend of mine. It probably wouldn't be best if everyone did it the way I do.
