I am quite fussy when it comes to keeping my truck clean, especially keeping concrete splashes off the business end of the mixer. Recently I have been experimenting with using releasing agents, or mould oil (like what pumpdrivers use on the rear of the pump) I only use a light covering on the chutes, the rear lights, rear mudguards and anywhere else concrete is likely to splash when filling skips etc. It seems to work quite well, as splashes wash off easily with water (instead of having to use the dreaded acid!)
It doesn't last very long, wears off in a couple of loads.....I was just wondering if anybody else had tried this idea or if anybody else already does this and has any input on the subject

I have used diesel fuel mixed in with the acid. Does a good job.

I USE POWER STEERING OIL & DIESEL IN A GARDEN SPRAYER. WORKS GREAT. IN COLD WEATHER LIKE NOW I CUT THE OIL WITH MORE DIESEL FUEL.

Holy S h i t!!! :oWe'd get our asses hauled off to jail if we did anything like that in Jersey. We used to spray our chassis with diesel fuel but that was before the tree huggers took over.

That seems really harsh indeed... Well, I may have been exaggerating with the "jail" thing but I recently spilled a couple of wheelbarrows on a street in Jersey City, NJ and had to make a mandatory court appearance. Our employer has to send quarterly soil samples from our yard to the state of NJ. So, because of this we can no longer use acid to clean our trucks. As a homeowner I'm not even allowed to burn my leaves or any other yard debris (that doesn't stop me from doing it) because of the air pollution it might cause.

Our yard is right on the Passaic River. At one point many years ago they (the NJ DEP) were concerned that our wash-out water and cleaning fluids would raise (or lower?) the Ph balance of the river. This river has been polluted for as long as I can remember (and I'm almost 60 years old). There are dye houses and other factories that dump their waste into it. There are frequent dead bodies floating in it. It makes the Hudson River look like Paradise. Should we really worry about the Ph balance of this cesspool? Anyway, since the new owner took over, the state is determined to make him a part of it's "Passaic River Clean-up Program". So, the company has to show that we are not contributing to any further water pollution. Whatever.

Yes, If En Con cought us spraying oil or whatever on our trucks, we'd be in a world of trouble. This plant is right on the Hudson River, (As if that isn't polluted enough) General Electric up here has been fined Millions and Millions for dumping PCBs into the Hudson River up until the 70s, and they are making them spend a few billion dollars to dredge it starting next spring. FYI, just yesterday, some dude dumped his car in the river at the Port Of Albany, becides getting in trouble for insurance fraud (claiming someone stole the car) and filing a false police report, EN CN has fined him a whole bunch. Yep, just for dumping a car in the river. So, I don't think they'd take kindly for some ass-hole teamster spraying down his mixer with 5W-30......

Dude, try living in Seattle for a while. Mayor Greg Nickels was going to ban bonfires on the beaches because he said they contributed to global warming. Bonfires!!!
I can deal with not washing out a mixer right into a salmon stream, but that is just bologna. They also just starting requiring grocery stores in the city of Seattle to charge 20 cents for a plastic bag. I think Nickels and San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsome are competing to be the greenest mayor of all time, no matter how stupid they look.

They're saying that if the stores don't go for it, they'll just make the bags illegal. Stupid, really.

I dont know what they're called, but its stupid. They make pointless laws and waste taxpayer money on crap whrn they should be doing other things with it.

We have to be careful about where we washout at , streets, streams, creeks, etc. Although we do use lightweight oil and a spray wand provided by the company to apply it on our trucks...acid is not allowed by our company...osha regs and whatnot. But what they don't see.....

Yeah, technically, in the State of Washington, once any slurry or water hits the ground, its in the water table. Its only allowed if its formed for concrete or asphalt, which is stupid, because last I checked, a couple of 2x4s and stakes didn't make slurry go away. But whatever.

I use a 50/50 blend of hydraulic oil and diesel. works like a charm...and I always leave my sprayer out so the mixer guys can spray their chutes if they want.
If anyone asks - I tell them it's a new bio-degradeable bean oil
people will believe anything you tell them if you say it with a straight face...

I went to a pump that the dude used hydraulic oil. After looking around on my truck for about 5 minutes trying to find out where I blew a hose, he told me what was up.

Hi Concreteman, I see you around. You will notice if you look at the back of my wagon I tend to go for the lump hammer approach at keeping it clean. Works for me!
