I not only enjoy what I do, but I sit here at night and read the message boards at mixerdriver.com. And I think to myself, "Why wouldn't most mixer drivers want to come here?"
I'm a rookie, yes, and I'm fascinated by what our trucks can do. They're designed to travel down a highway carrying a 10 yard load weighing up to 70,000 pounds. They can go off the road and travel over rough terrain with no problem. They are geared low, and have locking differentials. Hell, they can go in reverse up to 35 miles an hour (Haven't done that yet, but I've gotten my truck up to 20 in reverse).
I can only think that either there are a lot of drivers that aren't interested in "taking work home with them", or that there are many that don't know about this site.
I tell anyone that I work with about this place. It's a great place to learn and talk sh*t, and share stories. It's a valuable resource for all things related to what we do everyday.

I am down wit dat, MD69. I'm certainly no "company man" but it's kinda hard to turn it off after you punch out. Hell, sometimes at night I dream about delivering concrete!! Sometimes it's a nightmare but after 30+ years of this BS the man becomes the job. Know whut I'm sayin'? Anybody care to tell us about a dream they've had relating to their job? Ya know, like the one where you're heading downhill and the friggin' brakes don't work? Or you leave your truck for a minute and when you come back there's about 4 yards on the ground?

Anybody care to tell us about a dream they've had relating to their job? Funny you should mention that. I had a dream that I was loading in an OshKosh, and the batchman started loading me way too fast and it clogged. The mud started overflowing, and the dude wouldn't stop. And for some reason, this particular OshKosh had an almost horizontal windshield instead of the way they regularly are, so the concrete broke through it and starting burying me alive. I must've had pizza and beer before bed that night. True story. |
