How do you guys prepare for night pours? What do you to make yourself go to sleep? Here at my company they are very retarded. In a perfect world they are suppose to ask you if you want to be on it. Most of us who do them are a regular bunch. There are times when you get burned out and you want to comeback to days. They are easy if the work at night is consistent like it has been lately. For me personally monday is the hardest. You come in do a load or two and your off by 10am-11am. Start time is usally around 1030pm-11pm. Go home tire my self out and get 3 or 4 hours of sleep if I am lucky.

we had one a few months ago we started at 5pm i didnt leave till 9am..we got screwed on that deal.. we were promised by the VP that we would get time and a half during the WHOLE pour because they brought drivers in from another plant that make about $5 an hour more than us do our work on friday and saturday so we basically missed out on a day of work to take care of this pour.. we when we got our checks we were told that we misunderstood what he was saying.. he meant the "premium" pay of 20 cents extra an hour..so for some reason 20 drivers misunderstood one guy...after that I'm done with night pours.. we did 3 or 4 a week all last summer..

We only run one shift so If we have an early pour sometimes as early as 2AM I take a couple of Tylenol PMs about 8.5 hours before I have to get up they knock me out pretty good and I get my 8 hours of sleep. Plus the wife keeps the kids quite.

If the smoke detector went off I'd be a dead man.

I love night jobs, love em, love em, love em. We have a ton of fun.... I'd do them ANYTIME! I do them for a few reasons. One there is no traffic, quickest way to get 12+ hours with minimal amount of work. Usually if we start at 9 or 10 at nigh we're usually done by 2am sleep till 530am when they start loading us for the 1st round. otherwise i wouldnt do em.

You know that can cause liver failure, right? Tylenol + Alcohol = bad news And I've got to do a night pour tonight. But, its all overtime ($), in King County where the rate is better ($$) and I'm in a newer automatic truck ($$$). So it could be worse.

Got screwed on a night pour last Sunday night. It was a freeway pour. Started at 2305, went light to another plant, got loaded , did ONE load. 220 yards and 17 trucks billed in. Drove back to my plant, clocked out at 0315. Was it worth it? I thought I'd score at least 12 hours easy.

Sucks man, been there before. You should have taken the streets back to 21. Had your self a long breakfast.

1400 yds in beverly hills tonight, the cops are going to love seeing 50 mixers in their city. ;D ;D So I was load 15 and whamo cops show up. Load 45 whamo cops show again. Contractor shows them the permit the 2nd time they show up. Cop goes ballistic tells the Supertindent "your f**king permit says only the date and no times specified and I can shut you down" Mind you at this point theres 250 yds staged. The super tells him" If you shut me down I will bill the city for the yardage, and the 15K for permit or call the city engineer who issued the permit". Here I am again load 88 they got the city engineer out of bed and to the site. The engineer is the one who screwed up the permit with no specified dates hence why his a$$ was out on the job and 230 in the middle of the street looking like a jackass! ahh good times ;D ;D ;D ;D

May I ask what Police Department in the whole world would even begin to bother a road crew, day or night? What the hell does the PD even know of permits and such? Must be a west coast thing, cause back east, they 5-0 is to busy with the constant stream of rape-murder-arson and general mayhem of an old, gritty, dirty, poverty stricken northeastern city.....

We're just more civilized on the west coast. And of course, in Beverly Hills, a mixer is something you use to make martinis.

Check out the picture...

I haven't fired that thing up in the daylight in months...haha
Night pours are an everyday thing. I kinda like 'em because the concrete stays cool....and as mentioned earlier - no traffic. So the jobs go well.
Sorry to hear that some of you get screwed out of hours because of these pours. not cool.

Clocked in at 0120, went light to (guess where, Mudder ) and scored 11 hours. That's more like it.
Going light to 18 Sunday night.

Went on a night pour last night to John Wayne International airport. We poured a runway, an 800 yard job. It's a shame we haven't seen anything bigger than that in a long time.
I clocked in Monday morning at 0700 and volunteered as soon as I heard about it. Clocked out at 1100, and was back at the plant at 1900.
I scored 14 hours and seven loads. Only thing that really sucked about it was that it was one big chute pour. Ah, why would I complain. Work is getting scarce around here.

wow 800 yards with the chutes?? I figured they do it like a street pour and dump it in a pile and knock it down with a machine..

The only machine they had there was a hydraulic roller. Two guys would pull from either side with chains to smooth out the mud and the finishers took care of the rest.
