Well I got the news earlier this week that I am losing my truck.. the company sold one of their old junk conveyors and they are taking the newest set back axle straight truck and putting a conveyor in.. so my truck is getting taken up to the city to replace the truck they are putting a conveyor..So I dont know what gem they are gonna put me in now.. It seems like a slap in the face to me since I have kept that truck spotless since i've had it.. I take care of it and treat it like its mine..and I understand the company has to make money as well.. but from the looks of it i will be getting back in my old ford that I started out in.. but its had 4 different drivers in and out of it so the fins are a foot wide and it is completly nasty looking now..sorry for the ramble.. just kinda peaved..

I feel your pain. I had the same thing done to me a few years back. When the next driver makes your gem of a truck look like junk, maybe the company will realize its best to protect the investment, and keep it with a driver who takes care of it. I see guys neglect new equipment all the time. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense when you spend more time in it than your own personal vehicle.

That ain't right, man. If they're gonna screw you out of a truck that you've maintained for them they should at least give you one that is in decent condition. Where does the reaming end?

They just bought 4 brand new sterlings for the city plants and they give the new ones to the senior guys, so I'm hoping I get one of their hand-me downs.. probably 04-06 Volvo automatic with air like I got now.. I told the the manager I'd be happy with anything as long as it has air..

Gant, That sucks man. I hope they at least give you a ride that is as good as the one you were forced out of.
As far as new trucks are concerned, I guess I'm the odd one out here. My company has been in the habit of buying new trucks every year. They have always rotated who they gave the new ones to. In other words, they started with the top senior guys (and gal), but when they take a new one they have to wait three years to get another new one. I have turned down a new truck twice, and I have recently reluctantly given up my '94 Advance for an '05 Oshkosh, because they want newer trucks at my plant. I have never liked driving the new trucks for a couple of reasons. First, I don't like all the electronic crap they've got in the cab and on the engines. Levers and cables are the way to go for me. The only button I like is the drum brake. Second, and most importantly, my Advance was at the perfect level of dirty. I do not want the headache that driving a brand new truck brings. Don't get me wrong, I take care of my truck. I make sure the inside of the drum is clean, but I am a firm believer in not stressing over the fact that I'm driving a concrete truck and it's going to get concrete on it. I have no problem putting it away dirty after a hard day.

That blows. They retired my truck a few weeks ago, and I've been driving a 2003 Freightliner they brought up from California. I've got it totally pimped out, so I hope they don't do the same thing.

You speak the truth concrete Joe. I like the new Oshkosh's we have. with all the push button controls, They are nice, but I feel more comfortable in my old Advance. She's a rough, skanky looking piece of crap, and they spray painted over the logo of the former company that we bought out, but I'll be damed if any customer ever commented about her at a job site. Lever back, chutes out, discharge, wash down, sign the ticket, gone........ She's older than my youngest daughter, and still gets the job done man! Drive Safe...

Gant better make sure you have a new one before you leave the old one we ran an ad for drivers and got swarmed with applicants most with mixer experience It's rough out there right now with or with out a CDL and I thought that a CDL would always be good job security.

I'm not leaving till I get another job.. but I havent worked all week..My uncles bestfriend has a dumptruck and is needing a driver, so depending on what kinda work hes got goin on I might go work for him.. hes got his own excavating company and mainly uses his truck for digouts.. which is good for me I'd rather do that than run out of the quarry..

My company used to give new trucks to senior drivers, and pass those used trucks down the seniority list. Its kinda rough when our owners bought a brand new truck every 3 months or so. the senior guys would absolutely trash the brand new trucks because they new in 3 or 4 months they would get another brand new one, they didnt care. Now when my company sells the oldest truck(s) in the fleet (about 65 mixers total) the driver who got their truck sold gets the brand new replacement truck! Seniority doesnt play a factor in that. Unless the driver was a total pig and the sold truck was trashed, then he would get a hand-me-down from one of the cleaner drivers, and that driver would get the new truck instead. My boss is pretty picky about clean trucks.

At my place, they're pretty fair about who they give new trucks to, for the most part. Sometimes I can't understand why someone would be driving an old beater when someone else has a new one, but not very often.
Not based on seniority, in theory, but our senior drivers keep up their trucks pretty well.

the senior drivers at my plant keep their trucks clean for the most part..we have a master seniority list for our county and share it with another plant and those guys dont keep anything clean..my plant is known to work hard and get stuff done and those guys are known for slacking off and being lazy.. but they dont hand trucks out by seniority either it usually goes by who takes care of a truck.. but alot of them dont take care of them and still have newer ones...I get the next available truck

I heard a rumor that my plant is getting five brand new automatics in a few weeks. I know I won't get one of those, but I have 3 drivers under me, so maybe I'll score a better hand me down.

That's what I'm going for. We brought a bunch of parked trucks up from California, 03-06s. I didn't get one, but I heard that we're bringing up another 21-23, and they're 07s, so I'm glad I didn't. And an update on my previous post, I didn't get that Freightliner, but oh well. I know not to detail a truck again until its mine.

I've been driving a 2003 OshKosh this week, which ironically, is the only truck we have without air conditioning on this 90 degree day. The other one is the water truck, which I also drove today.
But I'm not complaining. Hours, baby, hours.

my 05 international went into the shop for some major repairs while I was on 2 weeks vacation. I come back to work and they give me an 07 international....driver had an accident and was fired while I was gone, and my 05 is in pieces at the shop while they figure out how much money they are going to throw at it. 4 guys in 3 weeks out of the 15s guy we had at our plant. 1 transfer, 2 lay offs, and 1 firing. ugly.

From what we hear up here in Calhoun your lucky you had a job to come back to. You must be down by the perimeter missed your witty banter while you were gone.

ha ha yah Im inside the perimiter but lately have been traveling like a floater. I dont get any further north than cartersville and that would be rare. 175,ooo yards starting up on the airport. that might hold us for the winter. they say Im good for another month then they will look at the numbers again. I am the bottom guy on the seniority list with only 4 years. only stay due to the fact that some senior guys have been caught and fired for like dumping contrete in a dumpster without permission or writing false info on there weekly truck inspection reports like haveing good tires but then a spot check shows they are bald. just riding it out. keeping my mouth shut and trying not to f up.

We had some jerk off fired last month for dumping & washing out in a protected wetlands area, neighbors took pictures with their cell phones, called the company, and En Con, and whammo, so long arsshole, union don't protect you from doing stuff like that..... Since 1977, I've seen em come, and I've seen em go......
