I was bored and googled my company and clicked on pictures on google.. and I seen this Pic of my truck when it was brand new.. Apparently my truck was the show truck out of the fleet.. every slideshow that had a truck pic in it, had a pic of my truck before I got it... it's still one of the cleanest trucks in the fleet and its 4 years old.. it still looks the same except I have a little rust on the drum.. and that black stuff on the pedistal is grease it comes off when you wash it, but as soon as you rinse down after being loaded it runs off the rollers again.. anyways enough of my babbling..

Never unstood wearing a hard hat in a mixer, being most of the time at least where I am we are standing in the middle of a field with nothing over our heads. Even on big comercal pour nothing over 40' high around here.

We're supposed to wear a hardhat, steel toe boots, reflective shirt or vest and safety glasses pretty much anytime we're outside the truck. If I'm on a big commercial job I will, but if I go to someone's house I'm not going to wear the helmet usually. If I did, I'd be the only one.
What gets me is when guys wear their helmets driving down the road. Just a pet peeve.

we are supposed to wear a hard hat when we are out of the truck... I think the same as you do about residential and being the only one wearing them.. the company gives us green shirts and jackets, but we dont have to wear them.. but on highway work and commercial jobs we are supposed to wear a vest or a bright shirt.. and we have people that put their hat on in the morning and dont take it off till they park their truck

Being on the safety comitee I feel obligated to inform you that hard hats do not just protect you from things falling above. They also protect you from flying things like debris from a jackammer. Plus I bet that the ladder would hurt if the latch broke while you were walking by.

Sometimes I'll about not wearing it, and I'll get that, "ahh, I'd better put on the helmet" feeling, and I wear it. Without exception, every time I get that feeling, I hit my head on the chute when I'm walking underneath it.

Funny you should mention the broken ladder latch we had one break last week and nailed a driver on his melon pretty good, no permanent damage you know how hard head we are.
